RIVERHEAD - Suffolk County officials held a press conference this afternoon updating residents on what they need to know to be prepared for possible effects from Hurricane Joaquin.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says Long Island officials are better prepared to deal with a major storm now than they were before Sandy.

Suffolk says it has a number of high-water vehicles to help in case of any emergency situations.

Residents are urged to head to Suffolk County's website to sign up for its code red emergency notification system.
