SOUTHAMPTON - In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office is touting Project Lifesaver, which has helped people with dementia and parents who have children with autism.

Through the program, the at-risk individual is equipped with a device that transmits a radio frequency, which allows authorities to locate those who wander off or become lost.

A total of 53 residents have been enrolled, and six who did become lost were found within 30 minutes of receiving a call.

The device costs $300.
