WOODBURY - Suffolk Sherriff Vincent DeMarco says he has turned over the investigation into Suffolk Conservative Party Chairman Ed Walsh’s termination to the FBI.

Walsh, also a lieutenant in the county’s corrections department and the highest paid employee of the sheriff’s department, has been accused of falsifying his time card.

As News 12 has reported, Walsh has been terminated from his job at the jail with pay while the investigation unfolds.

Walsh has denied the allegations that he charged the county for hours he did not work.

DeMarco declined an interview request from News 12. His spokeswoman would not answer why the FBI would be investigating alleged time sheet fraud.

The FBI would not comment on the Walsh case, saying it neither confirms nor denies investigations as a matter of policy.

Walsh's attorney did not return calls from News 12.
Suffolk Legislator Kate Browning, who has previously called for an investigation into Walsh for an alleged sex assault in 1984, says there has to be more to the story.

“I think there must be some kind of corruption going on that is forcing [the FBI] to come in and do an investigation,” Browning told News 12. “I hope they get to the bottom of it.”
