WOODBURY - The Suffolk sheriff is trying to oust a corrections lieutenant who allegedly billed the county for hours he never worked.

Sheriff Vincent DeMarco tells News 12 that he is trying to fire Edward Walsh, who is also the head of Suffolk's Conservative Party.

Walsh was suspended last month following a lengthy internal affairs investigation.

Walsh has maintained he's done nothing wrong. Because Walsh is a civil servant, he cannot be fired without a hearing or going to arbitration.

Sheriff DeMarco tells News 12 that his office will also be asking the district attorney to review the case.
