YAPHANK - Officials in Suffolk County have buckled down at their Yaphank command center tonight to monitor the latest developments on Sandy.

County Executive Steve Bellone and other officials are closely watching the storm surges on the North and South shores. Officials say their biggest concerns are the breaches located on South Shore beaches.

Bellone says they are working closely with the Coast Guard and the 6th Air Rescue, based out of Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton, to develop contingency plans for later in the storm if rescues are needed.
