BRENTWOOD - Lawmakers passed a ShotSpotter proposal by a vote of 16-1 tonight, which will bring the audio-surveillance system to Suffolk neighborhoods.

Officials say the system will pinpoint where a gun is fired and alert cops.

The three-year pilot program will be installed in Wyandanch, North Amityville, Brentwood and North Bellport. It is expected to cost $450,000 for the first year and just over $300,000 for the remaining two years.

Officials plan to bring the new technology to the areas by July 1.
