Suffolk helps first-time home buyers through the door

Suffolk County's Down Payment Assistance Program is helping first-time buyers get through the door of their new homes. According to county Executive Steve Levy (R-Suffolk),

RIVERHEAD - Suffolk County's Down Payment Assistance Program is helping first-time buyers get through the door of their new homes.

According to county Executive Steve Levy (R-Suffolk), the program offers a federal grant of up to $14,000 to qualifying individuals toward their first house. He says the program has $1 million in funds for buyers this year.

To be eligible, a family of two can make as much as $67,900 per year, while a family of four can earn up to $84,900.

The county says the assistance program has helped more than 1,000 first-time home buyers since it started in 1993.
