HAUPPAUGE - The Suffolk County Health and Human Services Committee has passed a bill aimed at keeping sex offenders away from day cares.

The bill requires any day care center contracted with the county to check out any subcontractor that comes to do work at the center. It also requires the day cares to check any visitor who comes to do an activity with the children.

The day cares will have to run a visitor's name through the New York State Sex Offender Registry.

The bill will go up for a vote before the legislature next Tuesday.
