HAUPPAGUE - Suffolk County Republicans last night nominated Angie Carpenter, Suffolk's longtime treasurer, as their pick to run for county executive in 2012.

Carpenter, 67, will face off in November's election against the Democratic candidate, Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone.

Current County Executive Steve Levy announced in March that he would not seek re-election.

Carpenter first began serving in the Suffolk legislature in 1993. If elected, she would be the first woman executive in the county's history.
