NORTH BABYLON - Republicans running for various county offices in Suffolk met today with GOP county executive candidate Angie Carpenter to swap ideas about jump-starting the local economy.

Among the proposals mentioned were consolidating county agencies and pursuing policies that will promote small business.

"It's about cutting the bureaucracy, it's about cutting the red tape, it's about making government work for people, be there to help people, not get in their way," Carpenter said.

Carpenter's Democratic opponent, Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone, was unavailable for comment, but Suffolk Democratic Party Chairman Richard Schaffer responded by accusing Republicans of touting the same ideas Bellone put forth over the summer.

"We've been desperately looking for a dialogue with Angie Carpenter to find out what her plans are for the county," he says. "Steve Bellone's made it absolutely clear that he wants to create tax incentives for businesses, and we've heard absolutely nothing from her."(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); = id; js.src = "//"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
