HAUPPAUGE - Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone's office held a hearing today on a proposed ban of energy drink sales to minors.

The Legislature has already passed the ban, which would stop sales of energy drinks to minors at county parks.

Bellone heard mixed messages today. Those who support the ban cite a study by the American Association of Pediatricians, which is worried about caffeine and other energy drink ingredients. Many who spoke against banning energy drinks were doctors and lawyers hired as lobbyists by the American Beverage Association. They argued that there's no credible evidence linking energy drink ingredients to adverse health effects.

Bellone has until April 19 to decide whether to sign or veto the bill.
