HAUPPAUGE - Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone unveiled his first proposed budget earlier today. The proposal, which stands at $2.77 billion, freezes the general fund property tax while slightly increasing the police tax. Bellone says the average Suffolk resident will pay about $30 more a year, but that no additional county workers will be laid off. Since Bellone took office this past March, the county has handed pink slips to more than 200 workers and lost 400 more through retirements and attrition.
