YAPHANK - Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has announced that the county-run John J. Foley Nursing Home will close on June 30.

After years of debate over privatizing the nursing center and various legal battles, the 50 remaining patients will have to leave by the end of the month. Bellone says closing the facility will save Suffolk taxpayers about a $1 million a month.

Bellone says closing the facility is the only option left after he unsuccessfully tried to sell the facility to private operators earlier this month.

According to Newsday, there are 141 employees remaining at the nursing home, down from 200 earlier this year.
