Suffolk County Executive Bellone denies Newsday allegations

Newsday reports that Steve Bellone spent much of 2012 missing in action. (February 21, 2013)

WOODBURY - Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone dismissed allegations today that he spent much of 2012 missing in action.

A Newsday article quotes four anonymous, high-level sources who allege Bellone spent days out of his office and was hard to reach last year. The paper also claims he held meetings in local restaurants.

Bellone tells News 12 Long Island that he would rather be out in the public doing his work so that people can approach him with questions or concerns. He says he has always scheduled meetings and conducted business out of the office.

The county executive says that he does not plan on changing his management style because of a few anonymous accusers. He says the focus should not be on how much time he spends in his office, but what his administration gets done.
