Suffolk correction officer charged with DWI in fatal accident

RIVERSIDE - Town of Southampton authorities say a 15-year police veteran was driving drunk when he struck and killed a man in Riverside early this morning. The pedestrian, only identified as an Hispanic male, was hit shortly after midnight on Flanders Road. Police say Christopher Dean, 41, of Riverhead, was arrested on the scene of the accident and was arraigned on DWI charges today. News 12 Long Island has learned that Dean is a sergeant and correction officer at the Suffolk County Jail. Jail officials say Dean has been suspended without pay for 30 days, pending the outcome of an investigation into the DWI case. Anyone with more information is urged to call Southampton police at 631-702-2230.
