WOODBURY - ? A new study is reminding parents of the dangers of portable kiddie pools as summer is set to get under way.

A child dies every five days in portable pools during the summer in the U.S., according to the report published by researchers at a children?s hospital in Ohio.

The study also says about 94 percent of those victims are under the age of 5 and between 2001-2009, 209 children drowned in portable backyard swimming pools.

Researchers say they also discovered that parents with kiddie pools seldom use fences, ladders, pool alarms or other safety devices used for in-ground pools.
