WOODBURY - A new study finds that young Long Island workers are dealing with "pay paralysis."

In the last 10 years, 16- to 24-year-olds on Long Island saw their average wages drop by 75 cents an hour, according to a Hofstra University study. For Long Island workers ages 25 to 34, average hourly wages fell $1.62.

Economic strategist Dr. Martin Cantor says the report is dismal.

"It shows that over the past 14 years, we have not grown," Cantor told News 12. "We can't support our workforce here. We can't afford our homeowners here. We can't afford an economic climate where people can prosper here, and young people are leaving because of it."

One positive aspect highlighted in the 10-page study finds that women in their mid-50s and 60s are earning $2.87 more than before the recession.
