SOUTH HUNTINGTON - Two seniors at St. Anthony's High School have been expelled for bringing a Confederate flag to school.

As News 12 has reported, the two seniors showed up during an evening handball tournament last Wednesday. One of them had the Confederate flag draped across his shoulders, according to St. Anthony's Principal Brother Gary Cregan.

The students had originally been handed a 10-day suspension.

Cregan says two female students have also been expelled for their online activity. One posted a picture of herself in blackface. The other student was expelled for allegedly using “offensive racial language” online.

The school's principal sent a letter home with students last week saying,  "As a Catholic and Franciscan school,  St. Anthony's will always demand acceptance and respect for all races, religions and cultures."

The school says it will be bringing in speakers in the fall to give students some training on racial and ethnic tolerance.
