JONES BEACH - Many Long Islanders are looking forward to spending their Labor Day weekend on the beach, but in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene, some beaches may be off limits.

When Irene made landfall last weekend, Long Beach bore the brunt of the impact. The massive storm surge pushed sand and seawater into nearby buildings and surrounding streets. It also lifted the Long Beach Lifeguard Headquarters off its foundation, slamming it into the boardwalk. Today, crews tried to reposition the structure in time for this weekend.

Jones Beach will be opened for the holiday, but people are advised to pack lunch with them because the concession stand at the central mall will be closed.

Robert Moses and Sunken Meadow state parks will also be open, but it remains unknown if Brookhaven, Caleb Smith and Wildwood state parks, which are currently closed, will reopen for Labor Day.

Beaches in Islip, Babylon and Oyster Bay are also expected to be open for business.
