WOODBURY - Stop & Shop is taking over more than two dozen Waldbaum's, A&P and Pathmark supermarkets, including eight locations on Long Island.

The $146 million deal was announced Monday. It comes after Waldbaums' parent company, the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, filed for bankruptcy for the second time in five years.

The move still must be approved by a court.

If approved, Stop & Shop will take over the Waldbaum's on Newtown Lane in East Hampton; the Waldbaum's on Main Street in Southampton; the Waldbaum's on Atlantic Avenue in Baldwin; the Waldbaum's on Hicksville Road in Massapequa; the Waldbaum's on Park Avenue in Long Beach; the Waldbaum's on Wall Street in Huntington; the Pathmark on Merrick Road in Seaford; and the Pathmark on Franklin Avenue in Franklin Square.

The other 17 stores slated for takeover are mostly located in New York City and New Jersey.
