STONY BROOK - News 12 Long Island has learned Stony Brook University is starting to look for developers to build a new housing complex.

The move comes as the school looks to deal with a longtime housing shortage.

Stony Brook is now looking to create a "campus village" with housing for students and faculty, according to Newsday. The village could be built on or off campus.

As News 12 has been reporting, there's been an ongoing dispute in Stony Brook over off-campus housing.

Many residents say absentee landlords are converting single family homes into housing for college students and it's ruining their quality of life.
