STONY BROOK - A Stony Brook University men's basketball player has been arrested and charged with raping a minor, endangering the welfare of a child and sexual misconduct, according to the university police.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Blair Mendy, a 22-year-old who plays guard for the Seawolves.

According to his Stony Brook Athletics profile, Mendy is a sophomore originally from San Jose, California.

Police say the victim is not a student of the school and did not release details about the circumstances of the alleged rape. Sources tell News 12 that the victim is a 16-year-old who Mendy met on the Tinder dating app.

Students around campus condemned the act.

"If that is true, then it's pretty bad," says Ray Yang, a graduate student. "I mean, it doesn't matter if he's a basketball player or not."

Athletes should be setting a good example, according to Minra Kheir, a junior.

"I'm surprised," Kheir says.

No one answered the phone at Mendy's California home.
