Stony Brook student killed in hit-and-run crash on North Country Road

STONY BROOK - Police say a Stony Brook student has been killed in a hit-and-run crash.

The incident happened on North Country Road just west of Main Street in Stony Brook late Wednesday night.

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Artem Ayzen, of Brooklyn. According to police, he was rollerblading on North Country Road when he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on North Country Road.

Police say the driver, whose vehicle was described as a dark-colored SUV with front-end damage, fled the scene at 10:55 p.m.

Officials at Stony Brook say Ayzen was a dedicated student who was pursuing his master's and doctorate degree in electrical engineering.
