SYOSSET - An effort is being made to close the loophole that allows drivers to text at red lights and stop signs.

According to the latest News 12/Hofstra poll, 86 percent of drivers say they never text. Another 10 percent said they text occasionally, and only 3 percent admitted to frequent texting behind the wheel.

State Sen. Carl Marcellino (R-Oyster Bay) is introducing a bill to make it illegal for drivers to text while stopped and idling.

“Park the car and do what you got to do, and then go back on the road and do what you're supposed to do - concentrating on the road in that 2,000-pound missile you're driving,” says Marcellino.

Of viewers polled, 67 percent supported Marcellino’s bill and only 29 percent opposed.
