GARDEN CITY - Some parents on Long Island are fuming that New York State’s education commissioner canceled his public meeting with them, holding a private meeting instead.

Dr. John King called off a town hall-style meeting in Garden City over the state’s controversial Common Core curriculum.

He complains his last meeting in Poughkeepsie was disrupted by what he called "special interest groups." So instead, King held a private meeting yesterday with Sen. Marcellino and people in his district at Oyster Bay High School.
