FARMINGDALE - Over $1 billion has been designated in the state budget to repair Long Island's infrastructure and transportation.

State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos says he would like to see the money used to complete large projects that have been put off for many years.

News 12 Long Island has learned some of the money might be going to Republic Airport in Farmingdale and to widen the Sagtikos Parkway, which would benefit the nearby Heartland Transportation Facility.

Officials say the money would also go to road paving, re-paving and bridge repairs, and to finish the Ronkonkoma HUB. Other projects mentioned were phasing out many cesspools and improving sewer systems and waste treatment, and flood hardening the South Shore after Superstorm Sandy.

Some planners, however, say they are disappointed that Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Legislature didn't deliver on a promised $1.7 billion in property tax credits for middle income homeowners.

The governor plans to hold meetings later this year with local representatives and the Empire State Development Corporation to finalize the project list.
