SPCA: Josephine Rivera arrested for allegedly throwing dog from car at Mastic gas station

Josephine Rivera was arrested yesterday after officials say

Josephine Rivera was arrested yesterday after officials say she left a dog at the Exxon gas station on Montauk Highway last month.

MASTIC - Suffolk SPCA officials say they've arrested the woman who allegedly threw a dog from her car at a Mastic gas station and drove off.

Josephine Rivera, of Mastic, is facing a misdemeanor abandonment charge for the June 23 incident on Montauk Highway.

Investigators say Rivera was caught on surveillance camera throwing a small white poodle-type dog out of her car at an Exxon station. According to the SPCA, the video showed the dog as it "frantically ran" to get back in the car as Rivera drove off. Five children were in the car at the time, according to witnesses.

Tips from the public led to her arrest, the SPCA says.
