SOUTHAMPTON - Long Islanders won't only be deciding between candidates on Election Day.
In Southampton, they'll decide on a proposition with potentially far-reaching consequences over protecting rural land. A special proposal on the ballot will ask voters if there should be a supermajority to approve planned development districts in the town.
Only three of the five town board members are currently required to approve a planned development district. A supermajority provision would require the approval of four out of five board members.
