Family and friends greeted Army Specialist John Matthews at MacArthur Airport late last night.

SELDEN - A soldier making his way home to Selden happened to be at Fort Hood during Wednesday’s shooting.

Army Spc. Jay Matthews was stopped at the Texas base on his way home from Afghanistan, where he had been serving for the past 11 months.

He arrived back home on Long Island last night.

More than 100 people were waiting for Matthews at MacArthur Airport.
