ISLANDIA - A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain caused hundreds of accidents across Long Island throughout the day.

According to Suffolk County police, there were a total of 365 crashes between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. as the unexpected early arrival of snow this morning caught many drivers off-guard.

EMT Schuyler Gazzo says he battled the brutal weather while driving an ambulance. He says the slippery roads caused delayed response time.

As snowfall picks up throughout the night and into Thursday morning, drivers are urged to take caution and allow extra travel time.
