SYOSSET - The impending snowstorm is expected to make travel difficult on Long Island's roads and railways.

Officials are urging drivers to keep off the roads so that crews can quickly and safely clear them of snow.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto says the town has been preparing for the storm for about a week.

In Brookhaven, town officials are also confident in their ability to tackle the expected mess. The town's highway department has 250 snowplows and 450 contractor plow trucks at the ready.

Over at the Islip town public works yard in Bay Shore, crews have also been stocking up.

For those who must use the rails Saturday, the LIRR is taking a wait-and-see approach. Depending on just how much snow falls, there could be delays and possibly cancellations.
