MERRICK - Thursday's snowstorm caused all sorts of problems for Long Island florists ahead of their busiest day of the year - Valentine's Day.
At Feldis Florists in Merrick, owner Timothy Feldis says the snow delayed some of his employees who were coming to assemble the hundreds of arrangements ordered for Valentine's Day. As a precaution, Feldis called in extra drivers with SUVs to ensure all the deliveries are made.
In Huntington Station, workers at the 1-800-Flowers shop didn't take any chances with Friday's weather and tried to do some of their Valentine's Day deliveries a day early.
The other big concern for florists is walk-in business. Since the snow put a stop to most people coming in to make an order, Feldis says he's anticipating twice as much business Friday. Some florists recommend calling Thursday night or ordering online for any last-minute gifts.
