SMITHTOWN - The Smithtown Central School District has announced that there may be one less elementary school next year.

The superintendent tells Newsday they will have to close a building in 2012.

As News 12 has reported, last year the district said it was thinking about closing the Dogwood, Branch Brook or Nesconset schools. So far no decision has been made.

The district says the closure is caused by declining enrollment and a possible $5.3 million cut in state aid.
