SMITHTOWN - Smithtown residents are calling on the state Department of Transportation (DOT) to make changes to the town?s Main Street in response to a string of pedestrian deaths.Since 2008, four people have died trying to cross Main Street. The DOT is already planning to reduce the road from four lanes to three, but some community leaders say the move won't do enough.Some residents and local leaders are calling on the DOT to implement roundabouts to keep traffic flowing and reduce speeds. The DOT says it hasn't yet made a decision on roundabouts for Main Street.
