SMITHTOWN - The 22nd Winter Olympics are set to begin in Sochi and one Long Islander hopes to bring home a gold medal.

John Daly, of Smithtown, will compete as a skeleton racer for the United States.

While Smith placed 17th in the 2010 Olympics, he is hopeful for greater success this year.

"I'm a much better athlete now," he says.  "If I had to race my 24-year-old self, I'd beat the pants off him."
