Small plane crash kills 2 Farmingdale students; 1 survives

WOODBURY - Two aviation students from Farmingdale State College were killed today when their small plane crashed after takeoff in Pennsylvania. A third student survived. The three were not on a school-sanctioned flight, nor were they in a school-owned craft when the plane crashed in northeastern Pennsylvania, not far from Scranton. Patrick Sheridan, 34, of Long Beach, and Casey Falconer, 19, of Garden City Park, were killed. Evan Kisseloff, of Oceanside, survived the crash. His parents tell News 12 Long Island that the plane stalled immediately after takeoff. They say the wings caught the trees and the plane nose-dived and flipped in the woods. Kisseloff managed to escape before the plane burst into flames. Flags are flying at half-staff tonight at Farmingdale State College, where a school spokesman says students and faculty in the aviation center are devastated. Officials say Sheridan was fully licensed and qualified to pilot the plane. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
