NORTH BABYLON - A Long Island baseball lover is swinging the bat for 24 hours straight this weekend, and his sights are set not only on getting his name in the record books, but on raising money for a good cause as well.

Mike Filippone started batting at 8 a.m. on Saturday in North Babylon, and he plans on swinging until 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Each crack of the bat is raising money for the Dan Gambardella Memorial Fund, which was set up in honor of Filippone's friend, who was killed by a drunken driver back in 2011. Gambardella's widow started the charity to help local families in need.

It's not the first time Filippone has tried to set the record for continuous batting. Back in 2009, he went for 15.5 hours straight, and last year, he went for 19 hours straight.
