Shots ring out near church on Jennifer Place in Amityville

Police say that gunshots rang out today just steps away from an Amityville church where children were playing and enjoying a back-to-school barbecue.

AMITYVILLE - Police say that gunshots rang out today just steps away from an Amityville church where children were playing and enjoying a back-to-school barbecue.

Police say shots were fired at around 12:30 p.m. on Jennifer Place, across the street from the Christian Light Center Church.

Onlookers say the shooters sped away after the shots were fired. No one was injured.

The gunfire shattered a window of a car that belonged to a parishioner who was at the church with his family.

Police say they are trying to track down the shooters.
