BAY SHORE - Smaller shops are preparing for their turn for big deals - Small Business Saturday.

Marilyn Shulman, owner of Willy Nilly in Bay Shore, says Small Business Saturday is important because it emphasizes the businesses during a time when huge retailers take up so much of people's disposable income.

Shulman says thriving small businesses help entire towns by bringing more people there and increasing property value.

Shulman also highlights the fact that big box stores have a lot of major brands, but small businesses tend to carry more rarities that are harder to find.

American Express started the tradition of Small Business Saturday in 2010 to stimulate mainstream small businesses.
