SHIRLEY - Police say they arrested a Shirley mother last night for allegedly egging on a fight between two 12-year-old girls at an elementary school over the weekend.
Investigators say the fight started when two William Floyd Elementary School students got into an argument on Facebook.
Witnesses say the mother of one of the girls, 32-year-old Daphne Melin, drove her daughter to the school Sunday to settle the argument with a physical fight.
During the fight, police say another 12-year-old girl who was watching it yelled at Melin, "You are a mother, you should be stopping this!"
Shortly after, Melin allegedly spit in the girl's face, cursed at her, kicked her and kneed her in the neck and head.
Melin was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and attempted assault, but police say the charges could be upgraded if the injuries of the 12-year-old girl she allegedly attacked turn out to be more serious.
The video of the fight was posted on Facebook, but has since been pulled down after police confiscated the recording.
