Sheriff: Shirley man pulls shotgun on Suffolk sheriff's deputy

LAKE RONKONKOMA - The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office say a man led a deputy on a high-speed police chase today that ended when the man drew a shotgun on the deputy.

Officials say that 20-year-old Robert Martino, of Shirley, was seen speeding at around 100 mph on the Long Island Expressway around exit 60 at 3:30 p.m. when the deputy began chasing him.

Martino lost control of his vehicle at the intersection on Rosedale Avenue and Motor Parkway, according to investigators.

Authorities say it was at that point that Martino pulled a shotgun on the deputy. They say the weapon was never fired and the deputy was able to Taser Martino and take him into custody.

Officials say Martino will be charged with reckless endangerment and menacing, but that more charges could be added.
