OAK BEACH - The mother of the New Jersey woman whose remains were discovered at Oak Beach last week is calling for the FBI to take over the investigation into her daughter's death and the Gilgo Beach serial killings.

Shannan Gilbert's mother, Mari, says she has no confidence in Suffolk homicide investigators or Police Commissioner Richard Dormer.

"We are tired of theories," she says. "Now, we need the truth."

Dormer has said he believes Gilbert, who worked as a Craigslist escort, accidentally drowned in the marsh between Ocean Parkway and the nearby homes, but Mari Gilbert insists that her daughter was murdered as part of the serial killings.

Today at Oak Beach, Mari Gilbert's attorney, John Ray, accused Suffolk police of using "Pink Panther methods" of investigating Gilbert's death and the deaths of the other 10 victims whose remains were discovered along Ocean Parkway following Gilbert's disappearance.

Ray added that police violated Shannan Gilbert's civil rights by not taking the investigation of a missing sex worker seriously.

"Shannan would still be alive today if Suffolk County police had actually done their job," he says.
