WOODBURY - There is a new way to take your daily dose of caffeine, but lawmakers are demanding a safety review. The product is called Aeroshot. It is a tiny inhaler that is set to go on sale in New York next month. The inhaler is being marketed as "breathable energy" that can be used "anytime, anyplace." It contains powder that dissolves in your mouth for a quick hit of caffeine, according to its maker, Breathable Foods. However, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) wants Aeroshot blocked from sale in the U.S. pending a safety review, especially since the inhaler is not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.Breathable Foods said in a statement that "Aeroshot contains the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee and less caffeine than the leading energy shot."Schumer is also concerned that there are no plans for an age restriction on Aeroshot's sale. Pediatrician Dr. Mary Ellen Renna says caffeine and kids aren't a good combination in any form.
