Sen. Schumer declares war on websites that sell fakes IDs

ROCKVILLE CENTRE - Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is spearheading an effort to stop the influx of high-tech fake driver's licenses from China to curtail underage drinking.Schumer says websites based in China are blatantly offering some of the best false identification cards law enforcement agents have ever seen. The IDs feature holograms, watermarks and proper magnetic strips convincing enough to even fool handheld scanners used by bartenders."They are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing," he says. Since the Chinese websites don't accept credit cards, Schumer says he wants U.S. wire transfer companies to work with the Department of Homeland Security to identify sellers and block payments. "We need to strangle their source of funding and put them out of business," he says.Schumer adds that the phony cards could be used not only by teens wanting to get a drink, but also by terrorists.
