WOODBURY - Officials say a Selden man drowned on Saturday while whitewater rafting in the Delaware River.

The National Parks Service says it happened in the upstate town of Sparrow Bush, near the Pennsylvania border.

The 71-year-old man was with his wife and a friend when their raft hit a strong wave. The man wasn't wearing his life jacket when he was thrown into the water, officials say.

The victim's identity has not been released and his body has not yet been recovered. Crews will continue to search the waterway today.
