SELDEN - A volunteer firefighter was honored with a national heroism award Tuesday.
Volunteer Selden firefighter Michael Cosgrove was awarded the National Liberty Mutual Firemark Award for Heroism tonight. Back in 2011, Cosgrove jumped into action when a neighboring home caught fire. He saved everyone from the downstairs of the burning building and attempted to rescue a man trapped on the second floor.
This March, it was Cosgrove's family that needed help. Authorities say a driver allegedly high on drugs crashed through their home, rupturing a gas line.
Cosgrove responded to the call. Thankfully, his wife and kids were not hurt in the fire.
Cosgrove says the award gives him and his family something to smile about after a tough year.
