SELDEN - A 12-year veteran of the Nassau County Police Department who died in March was honored in Selden today as a devoted officer and father.

Officer Geoffrey Breitkopf, a member of the elite Bureau of Special Operations and a volunteer firefighter, was killed March 11 after being shot accidentally by an MTA officer while responding to a crime scene in Massapequa Park.

In honor of Breitkopf, the Hope Lutheran Church gave his wife Paula a special plaque.

"I feel blessed that everyone is here - the police department, fire department, [Bureau of Special Operations] - everybody has been like family," said Paula Breitkopf.
