JAMAICA - Security was stepped up at airports across the country today in the wake of Tuesday’s attacks at the Ataturk Airport in Turkey.

Officials say suicide attackers armed with guns and bombs killed at least 41 people and wounded hundreds, targeting Turkey's tourism industry.

The government blamed the attack on Islamic State extremists, but there was no immediate confirmation from the group.

Amid the stepped up security, there was a scare Wednesday morning at John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 5 after a police dog flagged an unattended bag around 8:30 a.m.

People inside the terminal were evacuated while the bomb squads were called in. The all-clear was given and the terminal has since reopened.

The Port Authority said it also increased security at metro-area airports.
