BABYLON - Detectives with the Suffolk SCPA are still searching for a poodle believed to have been abandoned last week by a former Town of Islip Animal Shelter worker.

Investigators say the worker, 30-year-old Michael Papini, was captured on surveillance camera tossing another dog into a dumpster at a West Islip gas station.

Papini had been paid $500 by a woman to take her two dogs to the shelter after she couldn't care for them any longer, but instead, he allegedly threw one dog in the trash and dumped the other in the street. The dog that was put in the dumpster was recovered and taken to a veterinarian's office for treatment.

The SCPA says the missing dog is a 3-year-old cream-colored miniature poodle that answers to the name Bailey. Investigators believe he was dumped somewhere along Cooper Street.

Michael Papini is charged with criminal impersonation for acting as an agent of the shelter - and grand larceny for taking the women's money. If the animal dies, he could face a felony charge.

Anyone who has information or who may have seen the missing poodle is urged to call the SCPA at 631-382-7722.
