SEA CLIFF - Sea Cliff’s mayor says he's been abandoned by the Republican and Conservative parties because he performed same-sex marriages.

Nassau County Republicans originally endorsed Sea Cliff Mayor Bruce Kennedy, but that changed after the Nassau County Conservative Party refused to support him because Kennedy had performed two same-sex marriages.

The Nassau County Conservative Party makes no apologies, and its chairman says his party has the right to endorse anyone it chooses.

"He bragged about homosexual marriage and that doesn't fly with us," says Chairman Daniel Donovan Jr. "The law doesn't mean anything to me unless it's God's law. And if you're violating God's law, I don't want anything to do with you."

Kennedy still plans to try and get back on the ballot. He has to collect 500 signatures on petitions to get back on the ballot.
